Oil-immersed power transformers

From 10 kV to 500 kV and up to 600 MVA, built in Harbin since 1955. Three-phase and single-phase, on-load or off-circuit tap changing, for grid connection and for generator step-up duty.

Generator step-up duty

Renewable plants increasingly need the transformer's low-voltage winding to match the generator or inverter output voltage rather than a standard distribution level. We build low-voltage windings at 6.3, 6.6, 10.5, 13.8, 15.75, 18, 20 and 24 kV. This is the configuration used for generator step-up (GSU) transformers on wind, solar and storage projects.

Design and construction

Cold-rolled grain-oriented silicon steel cores, wound or stacked depending on rating. Copper windings with oil-immersed paper insulation. Vacuum drying and vacuum oil filling. Corrugated or radiator tanks depending on rating, with corrosion protection specified to the site environment. On-load tap changers where voltage regulation under load is required.

Efficiency and losses

Our standard efficiency series are S22, S20, S18 and S13, covering the loss levels required by current Chinese efficiency standards. For projects where the owner evaluates losses over the asset life, we can offer lower-loss designs and provide the loss figures needed for a loss capitalisation calculation.

Testing

Routine tests on every unit. Type tests on the model family, including temperature rise, lightning impulse, partial discharge and noise. Two impulse generator systems are available: 1200 kV for products up to 220 kV and 4800 kV for products above it. Partial discharge background at the Harbin plant is ≤10 pC.

Standards

IEC 60076 series by default. IEEE C57, AS/NZS 60076 and GB standards where a project or market requires them. Insulation co-ordination to IEC 60071-1. Partial discharge measurement to IEC 60270.
